The Bibles Hall of Fame

February 24, 2013

Not being much of a sports fan I have not given any thought about the hall of fame for sports or any other for that matter. My good friend Charles who teaches our Sunday school brought it up this morning and it opened my eyes to the hall of fame in the bible. In fact when he asked does anyone know where in the bible it lists some faith hall of famers? One man answered Hebrews chapter 11. You know he was right after turning their and reading it jumped out at me that this is about people who God had inducted into the faith hall of fame. Hebrews 11:1-4 introduces us to faith and what it means to have it. 1. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2. For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The firCain and Abel Offering their Sacrificesst on entered into the faith hall of fame is Abel, verse 4. By faith Abel offered unto God a more extent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gift: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. All through the Old Testament it is blood that covers our sins and Able having faith obeyed God by presenting his sacrifice of an unblemished lamb thus using this lamb blood to cover his sins, whereas Cain presented a grain offering which disobeyed God.

In Verse 5 By faith Enoch was inducted in to the hall of fame. By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death: and was not found, because God had translated him: for before translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. Can you just imagine how it would be if God just whisked you up into heaven and you did not have to even feel what death felt like. I just cannot wrap my mind around it for we all know that we have to die before coming into the presence of God and the only time that we might be able to just be called up is by the second coming when our Lord will come for his people.English: God took Enoch, as in Genesis 5:24: &...

Our next inducted faith hall of famer is Noah Verses 6-7. 6. But without faith it impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them who diligently seek him. 7. By faith Noah, being warned by God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. You have to know how much ridicule and ribbing Noah and his family got for building a boat out in the middle of dry land, and Noah telling them that a flood was going to come and destroy them and everything around them. It took Noah 120 years to build this ark plus if I am not mistaken it had never rained there before this time, they may have had mist type moisture but never a hard rain. I cannot comprehend what went through their minds when it did start raining and the water started rising, and God shut the door to the ark for there was no way that Noah could have closed it, They most likely wanted in then but it was too late, which will be the same when Jesus comes again if you have not excepted Jesus Christ.

Abraham was inducted into the faith hall of fame. Verses 11:8-10 8. By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9. By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; 10 for he was looking for the city which has foundation. Whose architect and builder is God. If someone told you to drop everything and leave saying that when you get there you will be given all you need, would you do it? Well Abraham did and for obeying God he was blessed by beyond all measures.

Next week in Sunday school we will be going over some more of the bible hall of famers so until then have a blessed week.
